Thanks in large part to Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson will be wearing an opposing jersey to the Warriors for the first time in his career in the upcoming season.
It was said that Irving had a role in Klay Thompson’s choice to sign with the Mavs when Thompson moved from Dallas to Golden State in July.
In a recent interview, Kidd discussed how Kyrie was instrumental in bringing Klay on board.
A large number of persons were involved in the recruiting process. Kidd stated on Dubs Talk that Kai was a major factor in that. “Kai sharing with Klay the honest truth about what he thinks can happen with Klay coming to Dallas and being able to describe what it’s been like for him in two years, player to player.”
Despite his desire to claim credit for bringing the league’s top three-point shooter to Dallas, the head coach emphasized the significance of players communicating with one another when choosing to join a new team.
“I wish I could claim the failure was entirely my fault,” Kidd stated. It wasn’t, though. Everyone contributed. However, I believe that the ability for Kai and Klay to communicate was centered around player-to-player communication. In this league, everyone shares their stories and helps each other out.
On top of that, I think Klay did his research and was prepared for the situation. He could have stayed [with the Warriors] with ease. As a result, he had to put in some work by reading up on Dallas.The Mavericks reached the 2023–24 NBA Finals, but lost in five games to Boston. Many are speculating that Klay may be the game-changer for Dallas.
Irving sat out a couple games, but Luka Doncic was the Mavs’ primary scorer. Therefore, Luka may feel less pressure if he has Klay as an offensive option this season.
